At the End of the Rainbow Lies Belfast
"Is a photography series from 2019. This collaborative project portrays some of the vibrant and resilient LGBTIQ+ community of Belfast. The scene is incredibly creative, with countless acts, shows, artists and performers.
This expression of creativity, in times of oppression, is something Jessica, who herself has Northern Irish roots, was keen to capture. The project is a celebration of the community, allowing each person to choose how and where they want to present themselves. The image is then staged with carefully picked-out light and colour gels.
Through these portraits, she delves into the artist's impression and offers a glimpse into the self-reflection of each protagonist. To further amplify the impact of the exhibition, the audience had the opportunity to listen to intimate interviews through headphones while viewing the artwork. This allowed the community to share their own experiences, giving them a much-needed voice and compelling the viewer to truly listen.
From the 2nd to the 7th of October 2019, "At the End of the Rainbow Lies Belfast" was proudly showcased at coGalleries in Berlin. This exhibition stood as a testament to the unwavering strength and indomitable artistic spirit of the LGBTIQ+ community in Belfast."
